The properties of osteoplastic materials impregnated with sulfated glycosaminoglycans

Abstract

The presented data have been obtained as a result of a comprehensive experimental study of separately sulfated glycosaminoglycans (sGAG) using in vitro stromal cell cultures of the sheep bone marrow and the bone collagen impregnated with sGAG on a rat heterotopic implantation model and on a rabbit orthotopic implantation model.

We have not obtained credible evidence that would support a sGAG stimulating effect on cell and tissue regeneration. The designed biocomposite material based on sGAG-impregnated allogenic bone collagen was used in 54 patients with various bone diseases.

Surgical treatment using developed material demonstrated a positive effect on outcomes in 48 patients (89%) that was regarded as a good result.
